Welcome to The Collar Code™
Hero Section
Five Levels. Five Colors. One Clear Training Path.
Your dog is officially part of The Collar Code™!
The Collar Code™ is Sit n Stay’s training progress system. It helps you understand what your dog is learning, what they’re working toward, and how their skills are growing over time.
Every dog starts as a White Collar Student. From there, dogs can work toward earning Orange, Blue, Purple, and Black Collar Certified levels as they build real-life skills through positive, relationship-based training.
Your dog’s white bandana means they’re getting started — just like a white belt in karate.
What Is The Collar Code™?
The Collar Code™ is a simple way to see your dog’s training progress.
Instead of wondering, “Is this working?” or “What does my dog need next?” The Collar Code™ gives you a clear path.
Dogs work through five colors:
- White Collar Student — Getting Started
- Orange Collar Certified — Building Confidence
- Blue Collar Certified — Adding Real Life
- Purple Collar Certified — Stronger Skills
- Black Collar Certified — Real-Life Ready
The bandana is fun, but the real value is the training behind it.
Your dog is building skills they can use in everyday life — things like attention, sitting, settling, coming when called, walking more calmly on leash, waiting at doorways, keeping four paws on the floor, and learning how to make better choices.
What Does the White Bandana Mean?
Your dog’s white bandana means they are a White Collar Student.
That means:
- Your dog is officially part of The Collar Code™.
- Your dog is starting their training path.
- Your dog is working on foundation skills.
- Your dog has a clear next step to work toward.
- Your dog is part of the Sit n Stay training family.
White is where every dog starts.
Orange is the first earned level.
How Dogs Level Up
Dogs earn higher levels by showing they can use their skills with different people, in different places, and in real-life training situations.
We are not looking for perfection.
We are looking for:
- Confidence
- Understanding
- Progress
- Comfortable learning
- Positive training
- Skills that are becoming useful in real life
A dog may be great at a skill in one room, but still need practice doing it with distractions, in a new space, or with a different person. That’s normal.
Dogs don’t generalize well, which means they often need to practice the same skill in different places before they truly understand it.
That’s why The Collar Code™ is built in levels.
The Five Collar Code™ Levels
White Collar Student
Getting Started
White means your dog is beginning their training path. They are learning the foundations and becoming part of The Collar Code™.
Every dog starts here.
Orange Collar Certified
Building Confidence
Orange means your dog is building confidence with the basics. They can perform foundation skills in easier setups and are ready to begin adding more real life.
Blue Collar Certified
Adding Real Life
Blue means your dog can use their foundation skills when the setup changes a little. This may include a different room, a different trainer, mild distractions, or simple everyday routines.
Purple Collar Certified
Stronger Skills
Purple means your dog’s skills are getting stronger. They can use what they’ve learned with more distance, more duration, more movement, and some real-life distractions.
Black Collar Certified
Real-Life Ready
Black means your dog can use their skills in practical everyday-style situations with more confidence and less help.
It does not mean your dog is perfect. It means they have built a strong foundation they can actually use.
What If My Dog Does Not Pass a Level Yet?
That’s okay.
At Sit n Stay, we do not think of this as failing.
We call it Keep Building.
That simply means your dog is still working toward that level, and we’ll help you understand what to practice next.
Sometimes it’s not a big solution. It’s the little things practiced over and over.
How You Can Help Your Dog Level Up
You can help your dog by:
- Practicing the skills your trainer recommends.
- Keeping sessions short and positive.
- Rewarding the behavior you want to see again.
- Practicing in more than one place.
- Being patient while your dog builds confidence.
- Asking your trainer what your dog’s next best step is.
Remember, training is not about doing it to the dog. It’s about doing it with the dog.
Important Certification Note
The Collar Code™ is a Sit n Stay training achievement program.
It does not certify a dog as a service dog, therapy dog, emotional support animal, or public-access dog.
The goal is to help your dog build real-life skills using positive, relationship-based training.
