Some days, you’re just done.
It’s cold.
You’re tired.
Your dog still has opinions.
And the idea of “training” feels like too much.
Here’s the good news: you don’t need formal training sessions every day to meet your dog’s needs.
You just need the right kind of games.
Why Games Matter (Especially in Winter)
Games:
And when chosen intentionally, they help dogs settle — not spiral.
Games That Work (Not Just Entertain)
1. Find It
Scatter treats around a room and let your dog sniff them out.
Sniffing is calming and incredibly tiring.
2. Hide & Seek
Hide yourself or a toy and call your dog to find you.
This builds recall, focus, and joy.
3. Shell Game
Hide a treat under one of three cups and let your dog figure it out.
4. Name-the-Toy
Ask your dog to find specific toys by name.
5. Toy Rotation
Put toys away for a few days and reintroduce them — novelty matters.
The Biggest Mindset Shift
You are not responsible for entertaining your dog all day.
You are responsible for meeting their needs — thoughtfully and realistically.
A few intentional games beat hours of chaos every time.
If games feel chaotic or your dog struggles to settle afterward, that’s a sign they may need structure alongside enrichment — something we focus on in Dog School, Dog School Online, and inside the Pawsitive Life Membership.
